Workers from Gary Bensman’s Diversified Rail Services LLC attach Styrofoam blocks to the boiler of ex-Gettysburg Railroad 2-8-0 No. 76 behind the former Oakland MD B&O Railroad station on August 9, 2018. The historic station is now the home of the Oakland B&O Railroad Museum, located at 117 East Liberty Street. This work was being done to facilitate the installation of new boiler jacketing on the historic locomotive, which was completed the following day. The 1920 Baldwin, which has a long succession of owners, arrived at the museum along with a coal tender on flatbed trucks on July 27th for permanent display from Michigan State Trust for Railway Preservation Inc. in Owosso, Michigan. In addition to this new arrival, the Oakland museum has a restored B&O caboose and a restored B&O boxcar on outdoor display, and many interesting local artifacts inside. Additionally, the museum will feature rotating exhibits and artifacts from the B&O Railroad Museum in Baltimore, MD. The exterior grounds are open daily, the museum is open weekends and some weekdays. Before visiting call for hours at (301) ) 334-3204 or visit their website [www.oaklandbandomuseum.org]
