The Buckingham Branch Railroad’s local between Doswell and Richmond, VA crosses CSX’s RF&P Sub at Doswell, VA on July 25, 2019. This train departs Doswell each morning Monday through Friday and serves on-line customers as it makes its way east to its connection with CSX at AM Junction just north of Main Street Station in downtown Richmond. After exchanging cars with CSX it heads back to Doswell, usually arriving late afternoon. On the left is HN Tower, constructed in 1930 and abandoned in 1958 when control of this crossing was transferred to Richmond. The local is running on BB’s Richmond & Alleghany Division which runs 199.6 miles between Richmond and Clifton Forge, VA. The BB leased this line from CSX in 2004. This line was previously the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway’s Piedmont Sub which saw famous named passenger trains such as the George Washington, Fast Flying Virginian and The Sportsman. The local is crossing the former Richmond, Fredericksburg and Potomac Railroad which CSX acquired in 1991. Leading the six-car local is GP40-3 No. 13, which was originally Milwaukee Road SD40-2 No. 158.
