Railfanning using the Tehachapi Web Cam

For a few weeks a group has added a 'live' Tehachapi web cam on Youtube. The camera as at Cable at the top of the grade and sees an average of 30-40 trains daily. I have some hints to help the train watching experence since there can be maintaince windows and dead times.
1) Down load ATCS (you must join the ATCS group on Yahoo) and install the hardware and Tehachapi files.
2) You will only see parts of the RR and will need a bit of pratice to get the hang of the display and train timing using this too but it is a good tool. Anyway trains entering Walong eastbound are generally 10-15 minutes from the camera depending on the type and speed of the train.
3) Listen to the radio (part of the youtube feed). West bound trains use track 2 and you can hear detectors at MP 377 (Mojave) and MP 364 (Summit). Trains normally pass withing 15 minutes passing MP 364.
ATCS displays real time dispatchers instructions, while it shows occupancy it is limited by those CPs that communicate via radio, about 60% of the CPs use radio. As you become more familiar with the display you will discern the dispatcher intentions and can easly determine where trains are located.
I have posted the radio freqs and timetables (older ones) but the info is current and helpful.
Have fun and stay safe.
